WHITE CHOCOLATE SURPRISE

I learned something this past weekend. I have my own opinions on the way this president is handling things. Frankly, it is not a shining review. Nonetheless, I can't seem to get on board with conservatives. They are shockingly myopic.

I was told, that Obama could have done the uniting of America a great service, had he emphasized his bi-racial back ground. I tried to compose myself as I asked about neo-nazi's on the rise who already have a problem with him, as well as other fringe elements. I asked if they would have had an extreme reaction, believing he was rubbing it in their faces or some such thing, and possibly would have begun to plan his demise based on that. I was told I was wrong and so I compromised my views for the sake of peace, knowing there was no way to get my point heard.

What a statement. It was agreed though, to my surprise, by another person in the conversation, and still another I know of who made mention of it several days before. How naive can you be to believe that racists, already on the prowl for his scalp, would be okay with him, because he has 'white blood' in his veins. They actually may hate mixed race people more. That is a signing of the man's own death warrant. He said if Obama did that, some of the cries of racism would have been quelled. I simply do not agree.

Another gem was telling me we were founded as a republic. So fucking what? we are now a capitalist nation, whose ideology is greed. That republic died. If anything, with the education system the way it is, medicare, social security, maintenance of infrastructure and national parks, we are much closer to a socialist state, NOT started by Barak. All of that was started a long time ago, in the 19th century.

Now I agree that he has not done anything to clean up wall street (possibly because of ties to Goldman Sachs?), or make a strong stand on health care, I never thought the TARP was a good idea. I think it sucks that he is so reluctant to go after the bush administration for everything from violation of constitutional rights, to torture, Katrina, and so much more. I think he is trying too hard, and getting too few results.

As far as the Robin Hood philosophy, frankly, I have mixed feelings about it. I guess the question is for me, when do you have enough? When do you say when? When will you leave some for the next person and stop taking?

I actually have one more notion that was repeatedly eluded to; believing that the way things were was better then the way things are now. That is dumb. If you believe that, then do something to make a change using arcane logic that no longer applies. The earth is not flat. It is a different world now, this is a different country. In case your not following:

*They had homestead laws. We have realty agents.
*They didn't have cars. We have home computers.
*Some ideology may hold true over the span of time, but it is the application of the idea that has to progress, and core conservatives tend to disagree, and are quite literal with the constitution.
*Also, back then, they fought for our freedom. Now, we kill doctors who give abortions.
*They knew about civil responsibility, we teach greed.

If these people from this past weekend, by chance, if you read this, well, this is what you would not let me say. Listening to you spout your politics made me realize how personal political views are. I hope you will soon listen to FACTS from another viewpoint, but I will not hold my breathe.
