If you take this jihad Jane, for example. She is a soccer mom, from PA. who has been accused basically of treason. The shoe bomber was Jamaican. The Virginia Tech shooter was Asian. The guy who flew a plane into an IRS building was from Texas I think. John Lynn, was from the northeast I believe. Who exactly are you going to profile?
To examine the factions, radical groups, militia, religious sects, gangs, tribes, and governments that have a problem with us, that have connections with violent crimes on American soil in the last fifteen years, you need to examine the world, and the human race as a whole. You need to examine why they are doing it. The Who matters little, because it's someone from almost every walk of life.
I used the witch trials as the first known american model of profiling. These very 'interesting' people said one had nothing to do with the other. Well, I completely disagree. The witch trials were profiling, based on rumor and fear. Same basic idea applies today. Deciding to focus on one culture as the de facto problem is dumb. First off it gives everyone else free reign. If we are so distracted looking for the crazy muslim with a box cutter, we over look the nigerian guy with a bomb in his boxers. Or neglecting the red flags on a military base until the one who should be watched there pops off, shooting his fellow soldiers, only to find his rhetoric of anti american sentiment was everywhere. For that matter, much of the fortune 500 who,'doesn't need to be regulated'. That was nothing more then the fox watching the hen house.
We seem to have a real problem accepting our new place in this new world.
First, we are being terrorized by big business. We are setting ourselves up for another monstrous crash. Lack of regulation and allowing the corruption that has been going on at wall street, big banks, health care providers, etc. is a new a vast form of terrorism guised as harmless greed. It does bring fear, along with the message we must do what they say or else.
Second, we are not so liquid, we borrow from China, who has passed us in so many ways. The student has become the master.
Third, like it or not, we were hit, and it hurt. We are not invincible, and the world knows it. We are a bully nation who beats on it's own people. Most of the terrorism we face today is based more on revenge then theological or political differences grounded as much in America as anywhere else. People feel betrayed, so now the little guy is fighting back, using terrorist tactics to send the message.
We are no longer the great lone super power. We have become impotent with exports, bloated with imports, and starving because of outsourcing. Guerilla countries we had control over, are now viable threats. The worm has turned.
What I am saying is pretty straight forward. Too many people want this country taken down. Be it a peg, or to watch it bleed out, wether it's because we are western thinkers, or because someone in America has had enough of the foot on the neck. This country is seen inside and out, as a taking, non caring nation. We are no longer who we were, and now everyone knows it. We are no different, then any other nation. America is above nothing anymore, because it has turned it's back on it's responsibilities to it's allies and it's people. Now people are ready to tell us to shut up, we can be threatened now.... By anyone.
My thoughts here are simple. Keep your eyes open, live your life. Not everyone is guilty, not everyone is innocent. We have too many holes in security to believe we are as safe as we were in the eighties and nineties. If someone wants to make a point, and wants to make you part of that equation, he will.
