MONSANTO ONE STEP CLOSER TO SOYLENT GREEN

Well I must admit, our fearless leader is again on the path of plunder and miscalculation. I could have sworn that one of the reasons I voted for Barak WTF Obama, was because it was not going to be business as usual in Washington. I thought he promised a new day when we, the people would rise above corruption, and we would force the greedy and immoral to rue the day they took advantage of this great country. The more I learn, I must say, the more he strikes me as just another Washington big wig, blowing hot air, and pipe dreams to the very public he has fleeced.

I have recently found out that this guy, allowed a guy named Mr. Taylor, a former head of a food development company called Monsanto to become America's food czar, and write a bill that would allow Monsanto to basically decide how, and what we eat, and where it comes from. These guys are real characters. They invented saccharine, agent orange, DDT, and has genetically controlled the manufacturing of swine, to make them igger and tastier for more money in their pockets. They have sued the American farmer, the people they say they represent, and who have dealt with them, forcing improper or immoral practices on their farms. When farmers did what they were told, and nature took over, Monsanto sued them. They have had patents removed because they were never supposed to be in place. Like so many companies, Monsanto is in the game for one reason..... Profitability.

Mr. Taylor has recently been appointed the paraphrased title of food czar by the FDA. In this position, he has written a bill to be voted on soon, allowing Monsanto, of all people, be the sole controllers of pig production, seed growth and distribution, fertilizing, harvesting, and selling of all foods that deal with slaughter, or seed growth. They would set the regulations in a Field they presently dominate. They would be the ones making the rules, in a game where they would be the only players, and they would umpire the game themselves.

This to me, sounds freakishly like the unregulated mortgage lending practices of the last decade. That did not end up so well. This is food. Think of the possibilities.

These people at Monsanto, are trying to corner a market nobody really watches. He, Michael Taylor is doing it either under the presidents nose, or with his consent. Either way, this could really swing the pendulum, and makes the president look like a special interest, blind eye whore. We could go from being gluttons to begging for our next meal. This has happened in so many markets here; banking, wall street, automobiles, big oil, pharmacuticles. They decide what chemicals would be used, chemicals they manufacture, and decide wether or not it is safe,(remember their past..... DDT, Agent Orange, sacchraine). So, are we really going to continue to turn a blind eye with the president, as we watch another American industry slowly get crushed in a downward spiral?

Below I have highlighted these peoples resume's for you to look at. These are not people trying to live the American dream. The are preparing a landscape for another American nightmare.

*** Monsanto's development and marketing of genetically engineered seed and bovine growth hormone, as well as its aggressive litigation, political lobbying practices, seed commercialization practices and "strong-arming" of the seed industry[3] have made the company controversial around the world and a primary target of the alter-globalization movement and environmental activists. As a result of its business strategies and licensing agreements, Monsanto came under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department in 2009.

*** The company's first product was the artificial sweetener saccharin, which it sold to the Coca-Cola Company. It also introduced caffeine and vanillin to Coca-Cola, and became one of that company's main suppliers.[citation needed]

*** Other major products have included the herbicides 2,4,5-T, DDT, and Agent Orange used primarily during the Vietnam War as a defoliant agent (later proven to be highly carcinogenic to any who come into contact with the solution), the artificial sweetener aspartame (NutraSweet), bovine somatotropin (bovine growth hormone (BST)), and PCBs.

*** Monsanto began manufacturing DDT in 1944, along with some 15 other companies.[6] The use of DDT in the U.S. was banned by Congress in 1972, due in large part to efforts by environmentalists, who persisted in the challenge put forth by Rachel Carson and her book Silent Spring in 1962, which sought to inform the public of the side effects associated with the insecticide, which had been much-welcomed in the fight against malaria-transmitting mosquitoes. As the decade ended, Monsanto acquired American Viscose from England's Courtauld family in 1949.

*** Throughout 2004 and 2005, Monsanto filed lawsuits against many farmers in Canada and the U.S. on the grounds of patent infringement, specifically the farmers' sale of seed containing Monsanto's patented genes. In some cases, farmers claimed the seed was unknowingly sown by wind carrying the seeds from neighboring crops, a claim rejected in Monsanto Canada Inc. v. Schmeiser.[10] These instances began in the mid to late 1990s, with one of the most significant cases being decided in Monsanto's favor by the Canadian Supreme Court. By a 5-4 vote in late May 2004, that court ruled that "by cultivating a plant containing the patented gene and composed of the patented cells without license, the appellants (canola farmer Percy Schmeiser) deprived the respondents of the full enjoyment of the patent." With this ruling, the Canadian courts followed the U.S. Supreme Court in its decision on patent issues involving plants and genes.

*** As of February 2005, Monsanto has patent claims on breeding techniques for pigs which would grant them ownership of any pigs born of such techniques and their related herds. Greenpeace claims Monsanto is trying to claim ownership on ordinary breeding techniques.[11] Monsanto claims that the patent is a defensive measure to track animals from its system. They furthermore claim their patented method uses a specialized insemination device that requires less sperm than is typically needed.[12]

*** In 2006, the Public Patent Foundation filed requests with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to revoke four patents that Monsanto has used in patent lawsuits against farmers. In the first round of reexamination, claims in all four patents were rejected by the Patent Office in four separate rulings dating from February through July 2007.[13] Monsanto has since filed responses in the reexaminations.

*** Mr. Taylor is a lawyer who began his revolving door adventures as counsel to FDA. He then moved to King & Spalding, a private-sector law firm representing Monsanto, a leading agricultural biotechnology company. In 1991 he returned to the FDA as Deputy Commissioner for Policy, where he was part of the team that issued the agency's decidedly industry-friendly policy on food biotechnology and that approved the use of Monsanto's genetically engineered growth hormone in dairy cows. His questionable role in these decisions led to an investigation by the federal General Accounting Office, which eventually exonerated him of all conflict-of-interest charges. In 1994, Mr. Taylor moved to USDA to become administrator of its Food Safety and Inspection Service ... After another stint in private legal practice with King & Spalding, Mr. Taylor again joined Monsanto as Vice President for Public Policy in 1998.

I hate Monsanto. I also do not understand how for more that 25 years it has been allowed in this country for heads of food industry to then get political positions policing the very industries that they have been leading commercially. Our presidents from both parties have allowed and encouraged this conflict of interest to grow. The USA loves money over the health and welfare of its people.
